The 15-layer hot press is very common in plywood production and offers flexible operation. If you prefer manual work, the 15-layer machine is the best choice. Machines with fewer than 15 layers have lower capacity. If you want a fully automatic machine, it’s better to choose one with at least 20 layers for higher output and efficiency.
Machine Frame
Heating Medium: Thermal Oil / Steam
Oil Circuit Design: Single plate, dual-inlet & dual-outlet (even heating, low deviation)

Key components are machined with CNC equipment to ensure dimensional accuracy and assembly consistency, improving the overall operational stability
Precise Temperature Control: Each layer’s temperature can be accurately adjusted to ensure even heating, resulting in better glue bonding and product quality.
Closed-loop Pressure Control: The system automatically monitors and adjusts pressing pressure in real time to match the needs of different plywood.
Wood Type | Density (kg/m³) | Moisture Content Requirement | Hot Press Temperature (°C) | Hot Press Pressure (MPa) |
Eucalyptus | 500–700 | 8–12% | 120–140 | 1.2–1.8 |
Rubberwood | 550–650 | 10–12% | 115–135 | 1.0–1.5 |
Pine | 450–550 | 6–10% | 110–130 | 0.8–1.2 |
Poplar | 400–500 | 8–12% | 100–120 | 0.7–1.0 |
Hot press plates are typically made from two types of structural steel: Q235 and Q355.
Q235 is a standard carbon structural steel with moderate strength, suitable for general load-bearing applications.
Q355 is a low-alloy high-strength structural steel with higher yield strength, making it more suitable for heavy-duty or complex structural requirements.
Compared with Q235, Q355 contains more manganese and less sulfur and phosphorus, resulting in higher steel purity and better overall mechanical performance.
Therefore, for hot press machines with higher demands on strength and durability, Q355 is generally the preferred material.
💲 Note: Q355 is slightly more expensive — for example, a 42mm-thick hot press plate made from Q355 typically costs about $40 more than one made from Q235.
When the total pressing force of a hot press is fixed, the number of hydraulic cylinders directly affects the machine’s manufacturing complexity, operational stability, and maintenance efficiency:
Using multiple cylinders allows for smaller piston and cylinder diameters, making them easier to manufacture and install. This layout is also more flexible. However:
Increased maintenance workload due to more components;
Larger installation footprint required for cylinder arrangement;
Higher synchronization demands between cylinders, requiring a more complex control system.
This setup requires larger cylinder diameters, which increases manufacturing difficulty and demands higher material quality and machining precision. However, it offers:
Simplified maintenance with fewer components;
More compact and efficient layout;
Smoother operation and more uniform pressure distribution, which helps improve pressing quality.
When high unit pressure on the board surface is required, designs with fewer, larger cylinders are usually preferred for better structural stability and simplified system integration.
A 15-layer hot press typically requires 2 operators per shift during normal production.
Main responsibilities include:
Quickly loading veneer assemblies before each pressing cycle;
Unloading pressed plywood sheets promptly after the cycle and transferring them to the cooling section;
Ensuring continuous and efficient operation of the hot press without extended idle times.
The machine generally runs in a two-shift system (24-hour operation) to maintain consistent daily output.
